The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center strives to develop health care practitioners with a passion for care based upon scientific evidence, superb clinical skills and the ability to communicate well and listen to others. As a resident, you will experience a comprehensive education with a broad and balanced mix of inpatient and outpatient exposures, as well as the ability to customize your course of learning to suit your personal career objectives.
The St. Rita’s Internal Medicine Residency Program is dedicated to educating the next generation of physicians to provide high quality health care for all and be leaders in health care delivery, medical education, research and advocacy.
As the largest health care provider and largest employer in our region, St. Rita’s cares for nearly 200,000 patients each year. St. Rita’s is a flagship hospital within Bon Secours Mercy Health, the largest health care system in Ohio. Our high quality comprehensive services include heart and vascular institute, cancer center, neuroscience institute, orthopedics, trauma and emergency, outpatient wound care and hyperbaric medicine, special care for mothers and babies, pediatrics, sports medicine, outpatient rehabilitation, men’s and women’s wellness, podiatric medicine and surgery, weight management, behavioral health services, home health care and hospice, among others.
Residents will participate in an ongoing program that embodies a comprehensive interdisciplinary care model with close collaboration as part of a team of health care professionals, including nursing and therapy staff, pharmacy staff, spiritual support personnel, dieticians, palliative care, hospice and medical administration. This care model emphasizes the skills that a graduate of the program will need to effectively participate in modern, real-world patient care.
- Residents will be expected to demonstrate these behavioral characteristics consistent with the Mercy Health mission goals in their daily care and approach to all patients.
- Community outreach and involvement will be established via a comprehensive outpatient clinic and community service projects, the latter focusing upon medically underserved communities and populations.
- Residents will actively participate in outreach activities and demonstrate commitment to maintaining the health of the populations served.
