What to Expect

At the Mercy Health Fairfield Family Medicine Residency Program, you can expect a supportive, innovative environment where your growth as a physician is our top priority. From day one, you’ll receive a structured orientation to prepare you for delivering care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

You’ll serve a diverse patient population across the lifespan, including many who are underserved or facing complex health challenges. Through our newly designed continuity clinic and community-based rotations, you'll build longitudinal relationships with patients while gaining proficiency in preventative care, chronic disease management, and hands-on procedures.

Our curriculum combines core rotations with personalized electives, offering flexibility to explore your interests in areas such as women’s health, sports medicine, osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), behavioral health, and more. You’ll also benefit from a robust educational schedule featuring:

  • Weekly faculty-led didactics and board prep
  • Procedural and OMT labs
  • Case reports and specialty lectures
  • Research, quality improvement, and population health projects.

We are committed to helping you develop into a confident, well-rounded family physician ready to pursue primary care, fellowship, academic medicine, or leadership roles.

Call Schedule

Call will be performed during PGY-2 and PGY 3 class years. This will be home call for the clinic/office during non-business hours. Call will be on a 7-day rotation schedule.

Average Hours a Week

We are committed to compliance with ACGME’s Clinical Experience and Education Requirements (formerly known as Duty Hours). We strive to offer an effective program structure that provides work-life balance while enabling residents to gain requisite education and clinical experiences, as well as reasonable opportunities for rest and personal activities. Clinical and educational work averages from approximately 45 to 75 hours per week depending on rotation schedule.

Where do most physicians live around the area?

Many choose to live within close proximity to the hospital in Fairfield or other nearby suburban areas such as West Chester or Mason. Others choose to live within the downtown vicinity. Cincinnati is a relatively affordable city to live, making renting or purchasing property easily accessible to residents.
