Program Overview

Welcome to the Mercy Health Fairfield Transitional Year Residency Program. As a new, community-based residency, we offer a unique opportunity for residents to help shape a supportive and dynamic learning environment.

Our mission is to train compassionate, evidence-based physicians committed to preventative care, patient education, and community health. Residents will work closely with faculty and care teams in a newly developed continuity clinic, gaining hands-on experience in managing acute, chronic, and preventative conditions across all ages.

With rotations in inpatient medicine, intensive care, emergency medicine, pain management, surgery, and a variety of electives, our curriculum blends full-spectrum training with personalized mentorship and leadership opportunities. Weekly didactics, OMT labs, procedural workshops, and scholarly development are built into our structure to support lifelong learning. There are also options to be involved in leadership, advocacy, health policy, and public health, among other opportunities.

Located at Mercy Health Fairfield Hospital, a 211-bed facility in Butler County, our program is ideal for residents looking to make a meaningful impact while becoming confident, skilled, and well-rounded physicians.

Program Aims

Our program aims include the following:

  1. To promote an environment of lifelong learning, advocacy, professionalism, and scientific inquiry for resident physicians through evidence-based training.
  2. To foster resident learning interests for personal and professional growth through individualized learning plans, elective rotations, and academic endeavors.
  3. To model teamwork, professionalism, advocacy, and work-life balance through culture, collaboration, wellness initiatives, and advocacy engagement.
  4. To provide a well-rounded foundation in clinical medicine to prepare each resident for their own career goals and future clinical training.
