How are residents supervised in the Family Medicine Residency Clinic?
PGY-1 residents require direct supervision from an attending physician for all patient encounters in the first 6 months. As residents progress, they acquire graduated autonomy and responsibility in decision-making depending on the visit type and resident progress.
How many patients do residents see per half-day in the Family Medicine Residency Clinic?
PGY-1 residents start with 4 patients per half day and increase every 6 months with an additional patient over the course of the year.
Do residents help with teaching of medical students?
Medical education is an integral part of our residency program. PGY-1 residents can begin to help with teaching medical students; however, medical students will usually work with attendings or PGY-2/PGY-3 Family Medicine residents.
