Mercy Health - West Hospital Going Strong and Helping the West Side Be Well Three Months After Opening

(CINCINNATI; February 25, 2014) – Mercy Health, which provides advanced, compassionate, quality care in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that after just three months in operation, Mercy Health – West Hospital is changing lives for the better on the West Side.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with how the West Side community has welcomed Mercy Health – West Hospital,” says Mike Stephens, Mercy Health West Market Leader and President. “In just three months, we’ve had thousands come through our doors, seeking the compassionate, high quality and very advanced care that Mercy Health gives to help Cincinnati be well. Thanks to our location close to home, our heart care program has saved lives, just as our Family Birthing Center has welcomed them on the West Side for the first time in years.”

“I will never forget the joy on the faces of our clinical team and staff as we all gathered to applaud Sebastian Ray Cole, son of Shawna Patricia Schroppel and Jason Ray Cole and the first baby born at West Hospital, as he left for home. Then there were the patients who came to us as they were having heart attacks. Our medical teams completed stenting them in the cath labs about 30 minutes after they arrived at the hospital. I believe the proximity of West Hospital together with the precision of our team saved their lives,” adds Stephens.
From November 10 through February 10, the experienced caregiving team at Mercy Health – West Hospital has:
• Treated 9,344 patients in its Emergency Department
• Performed 1,582 surgeries and 15 open heart surgeries
• Delivered 87 babies

The hospital, too, has seen impressive numbers, with the average patient count 20% higher than it was at Mercy Health – Mt. Airy and Western Hills hospitals combined.

Mercy Health – West Hospital is caring for the community environmentally, as well, with its green roof set to keep the building cool and save energy on hot days absorb a majority of rainwater that would otherwise impact nearby drainage systems.

The hospital’s beautiful auditorium is also playing a growing part in the community, welcoming school groups and other community organizations for meetings.
