Dr. Jason Hageman provides helpful information for high school athletes – Learn how to prepare for the upcoming season

Lima, OH (Aug. 3, 2015) – Mercy Health has devoted the ninth of its monthly Mercy Health: Helping You Be Well videos to preparing high school athletes for fall sports. This month’s video series features Dr. Jason Hageman, primary care sports medicine physician at St. Rita’s.
Many high school athletes will begin fall sports soon, including football, volleyball, soccer, cheerleading and others. In the video on Mercy Health’s YouTube channel, Dr. Hageman helps prepare high school athletes for their upcoming seasons by addressing issues, such as:
• What steps to take to help prevent injuries – such as a pre-participation physical exam by a primary care provider
• How to see if a child is ready for a particular sport
• How to handle hot weather – for example, wearing cool clothes to help with the sweat evaporation process, taking water breaks to hydrate, etc.
• Overuse injuries
• Gender-specific sports injuries
Dr. Jason Hageman works closely with certified athletic trainers and local high schools and colleges affiliated with St. Rita’s Health Partners. As a sports medicine specialist, Dr. Hageman has specialized training in both the treatment and prevention of sports injuries and illnesses. He helps patients maximize function and minimize disability and time away from sports, work or school.
Mercy Health: Helping You Be Well, which spotlights key health issues and tips for healthy living, debuted in December. The videos feature Mercy Health physician experts who are committed to making lives better – mind, body and spirit.
