Mercy Health - Cincinnati's Liver and Pancreas Center is a Single Treatment Center for All Liver, Pancreas and Biliary Duct Disorders

(CINCINNATI; November 17, 2014) – Mercy Health - Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality, compassionate care in your neighborhood through its care network, announces the opening of the Liver and Pancreas Center at The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health.

This Center, the first of its kind in the area, brings together the expertise of a team of physicians dedicated to the care of people with liver, pancreas and biliary tract problems. The team includes board certified experts from the areas of gastroenterology, surgery, cancer surgery, radiology, medical oncology and infectious disease. They have special training in gastrointestinal disorders.

“Liver, pancreas and biliary duct disorders are complicated and require highly specialized care,” said Mercy Health Physician and surgeon Thomas Husted, MD of the Liver and Pancreas Center. “This Center provides a full spectrum of care, offering a technologically advanced array of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches personalized for patients and their families.”

Depending on patient’s health concern, the Center provides both surgical and medical treatments. One example is the non-surgical transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedure, which improves blood flow to the liver through a minimally-invasive procedure.

“Studies show that specialized, high-volume centers such as this provide patients with better outcomes,” said Mercy Health Physician and surgical oncologist Shyam Allamaneni, MD. “The Jewish Hospital provides residents of Greater Cincinnati with a top quality, dedicated and conveniently located treatment center for all cancers and specifically for these complex cases.”

In addition to the medical experts, The Liver and Pancreas Center brings together an experienced team of pharmacists, psychologists, advance practice nurses, case managers/social workers, chaplains and dieticians to work directly with patients, families and referring physicians to create a specialized treatment plan designed to yield the best possible outcomes.
