AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill Available at Mercy Health – Cincinnati Location for Injured Runners and Post-Surgery Patients

(CINCINNATI; January 29, 2015) – Every runner training for the big race knows the feeling – something pops or pings in a knee, hip or muscle and that’s it. The race is run before the runner even reached the starting line. Post-surgery patients will be all too familiar with the ache that accompanies those first days of physical rehabilitation.

For serious runners and post-surgery patients in Greater Cincinnati, at least, that’s no longer the case. Mercy Health – Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality care with compassion in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that it has the AlterG Anti-Gravity treadmill available to help injured runners continue their training even as they recover from injury. The AlterG is also a great rehabilitation tool for post-operative patients, enabling them to start partial weight bearing exercise immediately and reap the benefits of rehabilitative exercise without pain.

“With the AlterG, our patients can run and walk without bearing their entire weight, reducing the impact on their bodies to optimize their rehabilitation and physical therapy progress,” said Adam Holleran, PT, MPT, OMT-C, Manager of Therapy Services, Mercy Health. “Our patients can rehab better, train smarter and exercise safely with the AlterG.”

The AlterG features an inflatable air chamber that surrounds the user’s lower body and gently lifts him or her off the treadmill to achieve a body weight that’s 20-99% of the user’s actual weight. In other words, if you weigh 200 pounds and use the AlterG at the 20% setting, you can run as if you weigh 40 pounds, lowering the impact on your joints and muscles drastically. If you want to feel what trimming 20 pounds off would be like, then use the 80% setting and run or train at 180 pounds.

“AlterG gives patients all the gain without the pain,” said Steve Basta, CEO of AlterG. “Our unique approach to unweighted physical therapy preserves natural body movement and provides benefits for a broad range of medical conditions.”

The AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill, the world’s first and only treadmill using NASA-based anti-gravity technology, is available at Mercy Health – Cincinnati’s Wellington Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine location in Anderson Township, 7575 Five Mile Road, ZIP 45230. Call 513-233-4360 to find out more.
