Mercy Health Physician and Sports Medicine Specialist Edward Marcheschi, MD Offers Regenerative Injection that can Heal Tendon, Ligament and Joint Pain

Mercy Health - Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality care with compassion in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that sports medicine specialist Edward Marcheschi, MD offers a regenerative injection that uses a patient’s own blood to promote healing and help relieve pain associated with stubborn tendon, ligament and degenerative joint diseases.

The office-based procedure is called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment. The treatment takes less than 30 minutes to complete from blood draw to injection. The Angel ® cPRP system creates the final PRP product and it allows Dr. Marcheschi to customize the concentration of platelets and other cell components in the final product based on the condition he’s treating.

“Platelets are the body’s first responders to injury and they are rich in growth factors that promote healing,” says Dr. Marcheschi. “In the arthritic joint, PRP acts as a potent anti-inflammatory and creates a healthier microenvironment in the joint. In a soft tissue structure like a tendon or ligament, the PRP acts as a trigger to jumpstart a healing process that parallels that of wound healing.”

Regenerative treatments like PRP may be an option for patients for whom standard treatment has failed or who may not be candidates for surgery. Common conditions Dr. Marcheschi treats with PRP include tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, jumper’s knee, Achilles tendon, hip tendon and rotator cuff tendon disease. PRP is an option for the treatment of osteoarthritis in patients who’ve had hyaluronic acid (HA) injections that haven’t worked or as an alternative to HA.

The procedure costs about $800 and is not typically covered by insurance.
