Mercy Health Physician and Sports Medicine Specialist Edward Marcheschi, MD Offers Innovative Ultrasound Procedure to Treat Painful Tendon Issues

Mercy Health - Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality care with compassion in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that sports medicine specialist Edward Marcheschi, MD offers a minimally-invasive, ultrasound-guided procedure that can heal stubborn tendon issues.

"We use our knees, elbows, ankles and shoulders quite a bit, especially if we live an active lifestyle. Unfortunately, we can overuse the tissues in these areas over time," says Dr. Marcheschi. "Many times, these injuries are minor and our bodies heal them successfully. However, if these injuries are too great, our bodies can’t heal them and we develop scar tissue in the tendons."

These scars can cause the tendon pain in conditions like jumper's knee, tennis elbow and golfers' elbow and can be the cause for pain in the Achilles and rotator cuff tendons. There are some patients for whom rest, medication, bracing and physical therapy fail to provide relief from the pain. This is where Dr. Marcheschi, who is registered in Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography (RMSK) and is a physician provider of Tenex Health (tenexhealth.com), can help.

During a five-minute outpatient procedure, he guides Tenex's Tx MicroTip into the damaged tissue. The device produces ultrasonic energy, creating a "jack hammer" effect that breaks up scar tissue and draws it out of the body without harming the normal tissue. The procedure is generally covered by insurance.

"The removal of the scar tissue stimulates the body to rebuild and heal the frayed or damaged fibers in the tendon that caused the pain," says Dr. Marcheschi. "Patients start stretching exercises right away with minimal downtime. Most report pain relief within two to three weeks or sooner."
