Santa Shops at Mercy Health - St. Raphael and St John Give Hope and Joy to Low and No-Income Families

(CINCINNATI; December 16, 2014) – Mercy Health – Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality care with compassion in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that its social service agencies Mercy Health – St. Raphael and Mercy Health – St. John are hosting Santa Shops for families with low or no incomes, so that they can give presents to their children during the holidays.

This is the 11th annual Santa Shop at St. Raphael. St. John is hosting its first ever Santa Shop. Both shops are open to families who have pre-registered with the agencies.

The St. Raphael shop, located at 610 High Street in Hamilton, Ohio, ZIP 45011, is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 18.

The St. John shop, located at 1800 Logan Street in Over-the-Rhine, ZIP 45202, is open Thursday, December 18 from 9 a.m.-noon; Friday, December 19 from 9 a.m.-noon and Monday, December 22, from 1-4 p.m.

The Santa Shops provide brand new toys to no and low-income families, free of charge. Generous local businesses, churches and individuals select and donate brand new items for children age 0-12 to the shop. Items on offer include toys, games, puzzles, books, dolls, clothes, sports balls and more.

“The Santa Shop at St. Raphael has brightened the lives of children for more than a decade. We’re delighted to extend the Santa Shop to the families we serve at our second social service agency, St. John in Over-the Rhine,” said Terry Perdue, Mercy Health Executive Director of Social Services.

“The Santa Shop responds to families in need during the holidays. It’s heartwarming to see the children’s smiles when they receive a new toy and know that we’re not only making them happy but also helping in their development. The Search Institute directly attributes toys to a child's ability to obtain developmental assets needed to become successful adults,” added Perdue.

In addition to providing gifts to families, St. Raphael collaborates with St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, which provides food to all families who register for the Santa Shop.

Volunteers set up and manage the shops and pick up the gifts. In addition to the presents, each family will go home with wrapping paper to add a festive finishing touch. The shops have registered 200 families each and Perdue anticipates they will make Christmas brighter for 1,200 children this year.

To donate toys and other items, volunteer or to find out more, please call 513-981-4211 to reach St. Raphael or 513-981-5816 to reach St. John.
