Mercy Health West Hospital Presents "No Butts About It - Getting Real About Colon Cancer," a Free Community Lecture on Wednesday, July 29

(CINCINNATI; July 20, 2015) – Mercy Health, which provides advanced, quality, compassionate care in your neighborhood through its care network, invites the community to attend a free lecture on colon cancer. The lecture takes place from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, in the auditorium at Mercy Health – West Hospital, which is located just south of I-74 off North Bend Road at 3300 Mercy Health Blvd., ZIP 45211.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the third leading cause of cancer death in both men and women in the US. The ACS notes that people could avoid the majority of these cancers and deaths by understanding what they can do to prevent cancer and by increasing the use of recommended screening tests to ensure timely treatment.

Gastroenterologist Ravi Ravinuthala, MD will begin the evening by giving a lighthearted presentation covering:
• Colon cancer basics
• Screening options
• Managing risks
• Useful resources
• Taking control

Clinical dietitian Kim Gelhaus, RD LD, will then provide nutrition advice focused on preventing colon cancer and will have an array of tasty, healthy snacks available to enjoy.

Attendees can take action for their health by picking up a free risk assessment and a mail-in fecal occult blood test before they leave.
