Gynecology Oncology

When abnormal cells in the body divide and grow out of control, cancer can occur. Gynecologic cancers begin in a woman's reproductive organs, and includes cancer of the:

Uterus: the organ where a baby grows
Cervix: a narrow canal that connects the vagina to the uterus
Vagina: the channel between the cervix and the exterior of the body, also called the birth canal
Ovaries: the organs that produce eggs and hormones
Vulva: the female genital organs located outside the body (the labia, or lips, clitoris and opening of the vagina)

Because some gynecologic cancers can be prevented or cured if found early, it's important to know the symptoms as well as your risk factors.

While symptoms are different for each type of gynecologic cancer, here are some common signs:
•Abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge
•Pain or pressure in the pelvis
•Pain in the abdomen or back
•Bloating
•Changes in bathroom habits (increased urination, constipation and/or diarrhea)
•Itching or burning of the vulva
•Changes in the skin of the vulva (rash, sores, warts, ulcers and/or unusual color)

Our doctors specialize in diagnosing and treating cancers of the female reproductive system. Innovative screening methods and treatments are provided with compassion and respect, to care for your mind, body and spirit.
