Mercy Health - Cincinnati Announces Clinical Collaboration Agreement with Walgreens

Relationship gives patients greater access to healthcare services, fostering coordinated care between Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens and Mercy Health – Cincinnati’s health care network

(CINCINNATI; November 10, 2014) – Mercy Health – Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality, compassionate care in your neighborhood through its care network, and Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) (Nasdaq: WAG) today announced that they have agreed to provide coordinated and expanded healthcare services, while improving access to high-quality, convenient and affordable care for patients in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Mercy Health - Cincinnati will work with Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens to provide care options for patients with serious conditions outside of the clinics’ scope of services and to help manage the treatment of chronic diseases. While Walgreens and Healthcare Clinic strongly encourage all patients to have a designated primary care physician and medical home for ongoing needs, the collaboration will provide Mercy Health - Cincinnati patients and Greater Cincinnati residents with expanded access to quality care seven days a week.

The collaboration will include direct communication between Mercy Health physicians and Healthcare Clinic nurse practitioners to coordinate patient care and share patient information.

“Our agreement with Walgreens extends quality care directly into our communities to provide greater access for patients, which is absolutely in line with our mission to improve the health of the communities we serve,” said Dan Roth, MD, Mercy Health – Cincinnati Chief Medical Officer and President, Mercy Health Physicians. “We believe our communities will benefit from this type of collaborative model as we join forces with Walgreens to deliver coordinated care.”

With the Affordable Care Act bringing millions of new patients into the health care system, the relationship aims to help address some of the needs and challenges facing both patients and healthcare providers.

“With the healthcare system today facing myriad of challenges, Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens can play an important role in enhancing patient access to quality, convenient and affordable care,” said Alan E. London, Walgreens vice president of strategic clinical partnerships. “Working with a highly integrated health system such as Mercy Health - Cincinnati offers an ideal opportunity to further coordinate patient care in the greater Cincinnati region. We look forward to working together to help patients in these communities get, stay and live well.”
