High quality products to improve daily activity.
The durable medical equipment (DME) program at Mercy Health provides high quality bracing and orthotic products as part of a patient’s continuum of care. During a visit with your orthopaedic or sports medicine physician, you may be prescribed a device to assist in the treatment of your condition.
Our in-office program provides immediate access to the equipment prescribed by your Mercy Health physician during your visit. In addition, we have certified athletic trainers at each of our locations to provide skillful knowledge on bracing to guarantee proper fit and education.
By working with a collection of nationally recognized product vendors, we are able to supply our patients with the highest quality equipment available.
Our products and services
- Osteoarthritis Knee Braces
Osteoarthritis (OA) knee braces are a conservative approach to assist in the treatment of OA in the knee. These braces offer a number of design options depending on the degree of OA in the patient’s knee. The intention of these braces is to unload the stresses in the affected area of the knee during everyday activity. These specific braces do require measurement and precertification through the patient’s insurance provider.
- Functional Stability Knee Braces
Functional Stability knee braces are designed to provide additional protection and support for individuals returning to a high activity level following injury. Common uses for this product include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and collateral ligament protection. These specific braces do require measurement and precertification through the patient’s insurance provider.
- Off The Shelf Braces
Each of our orthopaedic locations offers an extensive product line to meet the patient’s bracing needs. We offer braces and supports for the upper/lower extremity and spine to assist in the recovery of an injury. These braces can be supplied and fit during a patient’s appointment.
- Retail Products
Retail products, such as sleeves, cold packs and support straps, are available at our location for purchase. These specific products are not covered by insurance and require payment at the time of purchase.
- Ambulatory Aids
Crutches, canes and walkers are available with a prescription for Mercy Orthopaedic patients.
Orthotics are a custom built product designed specifically for the patient’s feet. Our custom orthotics are manufactured after a complete evaluation by our staff orthotist. They are often used to treat foot problems such as plantar fasciitis, bursitis, tendinitis, diabetic foot ulcers, and foot, ankle, and heel pain. Custom orthotics must be prescribed by your Mercy Health orthopaedic surgeon or podiatrist. There are two types of custom, prescription orthotics:
- Functional orthotics are designed to control abnormal motion in the lower extremity. They are made of a semi-rigid material to sustain the patient’s activity level while providing optimal support.
- Accommodative orthotics are designed to provide additional comfort, pain relief and support.
Insurance companies do not typically deem custom foot orthotics as medically necessary and do not provide coverage. As a result, custom orthotics are offered as a cash-based option that require payment at time of service. We encourage all patients to contact their insurance provider to fully understand the parameters of their specific coverage.
